During our two and a half weeks in Da Nang we stayed at three different Hilton properties — the InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort for a luxury two-night splurge, the Hilton Garden Inn for three nights of beachfront city living, and the Tru by Hilton Da Nang for a full week of settling in, slowing down, and actually getting some work done.
The Tru by Hilton ended up being our favourite of the three for pure value. We covered the entire week on Hilton Honors points, paid nothing in cash, and left genuinely impressed by what the property delivers at its price point.
Here’s the full review.
What Is Tru by Hilton?
If you haven’t come across the Tru brand before, it’s Hilton’s millennial-focused, design-forward budget tier — think clean, modern, minimalist rooms with all the essentials done really well, social common spaces, and a price point significantly below the main Hilton flag. It sits below Hilton Garden Inn in the brand hierarchy but punches well above its weight in terms of design and feel.
For travellers who don’t need a resort experience but do want somewhere clean, stylish, and functional — especially those working remotely — Tru by Hilton hits a sweet spot that traditional budget hotels often miss.
Location: Right Where You Need to Be
The Tru by Hilton Da Nang is well located for exploring the city — close to the action, with easy access to the beach, local restaurants, cafes, and the Han River waterfront. Da Nang is a walkable city and the Tru’s position makes it easy to move around without constantly relying on Grab.
For a week-long stay where you’re splitting time between working, eating, and exploring, being centrally located makes a meaningful difference to your daily rhythm. We never felt like we were wasting time on unnecessary commutes, which — when you’re trying to balance remote work with actually enjoying a destination — matters more than most people account for when booking accommodation.
The Room: Clean, Modern, Everything You Need
Tru by Hilton rooms are designed with efficiency in mind, and Da Nang is no exception. The rooms are compact but smartly laid out — nothing feels cramped because the design makes good use of every square metre. Clean lines, modern finishes, good lighting, and a proper bed that actually lets you sleep well after a long day.
What struck us most was how functional everything was. The desk setup was genuinely work-friendly — good height, proper lighting, accessible power points — which for a week of remote work is more important than any aesthetic consideration. The wifi was fast and reliable throughout our stay, handling video calls and large file uploads without issues.
After weeks of moving fast across Vietnam, having a clean, comfortable, well-designed room to come back to each evening felt like exactly the right base.
Breakfast: A Genuine Highlight
The breakfast at Tru by Hilton Da Nang was one of the most pleasant surprises of our stay. Tru properties are known for their “Top It” breakfast concept — a build-your-own spread with a good range of hot and cold options — and the Da Nang outpost delivered this well.
It’s not the elaborate buffet spread of a five-star resort, but for the brand tier it’s genuinely good. Enough variety to feel satisfying, quality ingredients, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes a slow morning breakfast feel like part of the holiday rather than a rushed fuel stop before work.
Starting every working day with a proper breakfast without needing to go out and find one — especially during a week of remote work — was a small but meaningful quality of life upgrade.
Wifi and Remote Work: Where the Tru Really Shines
If you’re a digital nomad or travelling while working remotely, the Tru by Hilton Da Nang deserves serious consideration as your Da Nang base.
The wifi was consistently fast and reliable throughout our week-long stay — in the room, in the common areas, everywhere. We ran video calls, uploaded content, and worked full days without a single dropout or speed issue. For context, patchy hotel wifi is one of the most consistent frustrations of working while travelling, so finding a property where it genuinely works is worth flagging loudly.
The lobby and common areas are designed as social working spaces — comfortable seating, good lighting, power points accessible — which meant we could vary our working environment throughout the day without needing to go out to a café. Though Da Nang’s café scene is outstanding if you want a change of scenery, having a solid in-house option meant we could choose rather than need to go out.
The Staff: Consistently Helpful
The Tru by Hilton Da Nang team were warm, helpful, and genuinely attentive throughout our week. Nothing was ever too much trouble — restaurant recommendations, local tips, logistics help — and interactions always felt like genuine hospitality rather than scripted hotel service.
For a budget-tier Hilton property, the service quality matched what we experienced at the higher-end properties in Da Nang, which says a lot about the staff and the culture of the hotel.
Hilton Honors Points Redemption: Outstanding Value
We covered our entire week at the Tru by Hilton on Hilton Honors points, and the value of this redemption was exceptional.
Tru by Hilton properties sit at a lower tier in the Hilton Honors redemption chart, meaning your points go further here than at a full Hilton or Curio Collection property. A week-long stay — seven nights — for zero cash outlay is a redemption that would cost significantly more points at any of Hilton’s premium properties.
For Hilton Honors members with a modest points balance, Tru properties represent some of the best redemption value in the portfolio. If you’re building points through a Hilton co-branded credit card or through stays, prioritising a longer Tru redemption over a single night at a flagship property is often the smarter play.
How the Tru Compares to Our Other Da Nang Stays
We’re in a fairly unique position of having stayed at three different Hilton-family properties in Da Nang during the same trip, so here’s how we’d stack them up:
Tru by Hilton Da Nang — Best value, best for remote work, best for longer stays. Points redemption is exceptional. Ideal for digital nomads, budget-conscious travellers, and anyone spending more than a few nights in the city.
Hilton Garden Inn Da Nang — Step up in room size and amenities, great beachfront location, ocean views. Better for a shorter splurge stay or if views and beach access are a priority. Good cash value for what you get.
InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort — A completely different category. Not a city hotel but a destination resort. Jaw-dropping architecture, private beach, jungle wildlife, exceptional dining. Worth every point for a one or two night luxury experience. Not practical as a daily base.
Our recommendation for most travellers: Use Hilton Honors points for a week at the Tru as your main Da Nang base, then splurge one or two nights at the InterContinental Sun Peninsula for the experience. You’ll cover most of your accommodation in points and walk away with memories from two completely different types of stay.

Final Thoughts
The Tru by Hilton Da Nang quietly became our favourite accommodation of the entire Da Nang chapter — and arguably one of the smartest stays of our whole 100-day Asia trip. A full week on Hilton Honors points, in a clean modern room with fast wifi, a good breakfast, and genuinely helpful staff, in one of Vietnam’s most underrated cities.
It won’t give you the jaw-dropping views of the InterContinental or the beachfront position of the Hilton Garden Inn. What it gives you instead is reliability, comfort, excellent value, and a base that makes a longer stay in Da Nang feel genuinely easy.
For digital nomads and slow travellers especially — this is the one.
