As avid travelers always on the lookout for great value, we were thrilled to use our free night certificate for a luxurious stay at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver. We had trained for the annual Vancouver Sun Run, and the hotel’s location makes it the perfect basecamp for our weekend adventure. The hotel is less than one block away from the start line so we didn’t have to rush in the morning which we appreciated. Thanks to our Discoverist status at Hyatt, we were able to get 2:00PM check out which was very much appreciated because we definitely needed to wash up and get some rest before we check out.
Seamless Check-In and Exceptional Service
Our experience at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver began on a high note with an impressively smooth check-in process. Despite arriving during a busy period, with many Sun Run participants flooding the lobby, the staff handled the influx with remarkable efficiency and grace.
The front desk attendant, greeted us with a warm smile and genuine enthusiasm. He quickly processed our free night certificate, explained the hotel’s amenities, and even offered some last-minute tips for the Sun Run. His local knowledge and willingness to go the extra mile immediately made us feel welcome.
After all that, he did explain to us about the extra charge if we wanted a room with a king bed instead of two twins… it felt like he was friendly to lessen the blow of the news for the extra charge. We didn’t mind because it was a “free” night for us anyways and the charge wasn’t unreasonable.
Location, Location, Location
The Hyatt Regency’s prime downtown location is hard to beat. Situated in the heart of Vancouver, it’s just steps away from the bustling shopping district on Robson Street and a short walk to the picturesque waterfront. For Sun Run participants, the hotel’s proximity to the start line was a major plus as it was just less than a block away. There is also a McDonald’s right below the hotel so we definitely made a trip for a post run meal.
Impressive Amenities
Despite our brief stay, we made the most of the hotel’s amenities. The 24-hour fitness center was perfect for a quick pre-race stretch. We also enjoyed a refreshing dip in the heated outdoor pool, which offers stunning views of the city skyline. While we didn’t get to try it this time, the hotel’s Mosaic Grille is known for its farm-to-table cuisine and panoramic views.
Our Room: King Bed on a High Floor
Thanks to my Hyatt status, we were upgraded to a high-floor room with a king bed. The view was nothing short of spectacular, offering a sweeping panorama of the city and distant mountains. The room itself was spacious and well-appointed, featuring modern decor with a touch of West Coast charm.
The king-sized bed was incredibly comfortable – just what we needed before and after the run. Other room highlights included a large work desk (perfect for catching up on some blogging), a cozy seating area, and a sleek bathroom with high-end toiletries.
Parking Considerations
One aspect to note is the parking situation. The hotel offers valet parking, which, while convenient, comes at a premium. At $55 CAD per night, it’s definitely on the pricier side. However, for those looking to save a bit, there are nearby public parking options. We opted for a parking garage two blocks away, which cost us $30 CAD for the night – a significant saving that we were happy to put towards a post-run celebratory dinner.
Value Verdict
Using our free night certificate at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver was an excellent choice. The hotel’s regular rates can be quite steep, especially during peak season or events like the Sun Run. By leveraging our certificate, we enjoyed a luxury stay valued at over $300 for essentially no cost.
For travelers looking to maximize their hotel points or free night certificates, the Hyatt Regency Vancouver offers a great blend of luxury, convenience, and value. Whether you’re in town for an event like the Sun Run or just exploring beautiful Vancouver, this hotel provides a comfortable and ideally located base for your adventures.
