Hello from Whistler Westin Resort & Spa and welcome back to Our Travel Journey! Today, we’re excited to share our experience at the Whistler Westin Resort & Spa, a delightful mountain retreat we visited during our recent trip to British Columbia. We embarked on a romantic one-night getaway, driving up from Vancouver to immerse ourselves in the charm of this world-renowned ski resort town.
The Drive
Our adventure began with a scenic drive along the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler. The journey, which took about two hours, was a treat in itself. We were treated to breathtaking views of Howe Sound and the majestic Coast Mountains, setting the tone for our mountain escape. If you’re planning a similar trip, we recommend leaving Vancouver early to make the most of your day in Whistler.
Upon arriving in Whistler, we were immediately struck by the Westin Resort & Spa’s prime location. Nestled in the heart of Whistler Village, the hotel is just steps away from the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain gondolas. This central position means you’re right in the middle of all the action, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and a plethora of outdoor activities.
The Westin’s exterior impressed us with its grand stone and timber facade, perfectly complementing the surrounding alpine landscape. As we stepped into the lobby, we were enveloped by a warm, inviting atmosphere. The high ceilings, cozy fireplace, and rustic-chic decor created an ambiance that seamlessly blended luxury with mountain charm.
Check-In
Upon arrival at the Whistler Westin, guests are greeted by the hotel’s grand alpine-inspired architecture. The lobby, with its soaring ceilings and warm wood accents, offers a welcoming atmosphere. The check-in desks are typically staffed by friendly, multilingual associates ready to assist. Guests approach the front desk, where they’re asked to provide a government-issued ID and the credit card used for the reservation. The associate confirms the booking details, including room type and length of stay, and informs guests about the hotel’s amenities, such as the spa, fitness center, and on-site dining options. They also explain important details like Wi-Fi access, parking options, and the location of the ski valet service – a popular feature during winter months. Guests are then provided with their room keys, usually in the form of RFID-enabled keycards, and directed to the elevators. The associate often offers assistance with luggage and can arrange for a bellhop if needed. The entire process is designed to be efficient yet personalized, reflecting the Westin brand’s commitment to guest well-being and the relaxed luxury associated with Whistler as a premier mountain resort destination.
Hotel & Amenities
We stayed in a Deluxe Studio Suite, which felt more like a small apartment than a typical hotel room. The suite featured a well-equipped kitchenette, a comfortable seating area, and a heavenly king-size bed that promised a restful night’s sleep. The gas fireplace added a romantic touch, perfect for cuddling up after a day of mountain exploration. The spacious bathroom, complete with a deep soaking tub and separate shower, was a welcome indulgence.
The Westin Whistler doesn’t skimp on amenities. Although our stay was brief, we made sure to take advantage of the indoor pool and Sauna at the Avello Spa & Health Club. The fitness center also looked well-equipped for those wanting to maintain their workout routine.
Activities
Despite our short stay, we packed in plenty of activities. We spent a couple of hours exploring Whistler Village, strolling through the charming pedestrian-only streets, popping into unique shops, and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. The highlight of our trip was riding the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, which offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the Whistler valley. We also took a leisurely walk on the Valley Trail, a extensive network of paved paths perfect for a romantic stroll.
For dinner, we ventured out to one of Whistler’s renowned restaurant Araxi Restaurant & Oyster Bar, just a short walk from the hotel. The farm-to-table cuisine and extensive wine list made for a memorable meal and a perfect cap to our mountain getaway.
While our one-night stay at the Whistler Westin Resort & Spa left us wishing for more time, it gave us a tantalizing taste of what a longer mountain retreat could offer. The hotel’s comfortable accommodations, excellent amenities, and unbeatable location make it an ideal choice for couples looking for a romantic escape, whether for winter sports or summer adventures.
Until Next Time
Before heading home the next morning, we were able to try the Grill & Vine restaurant for breakfast. Thanks to our platinum status, it was complimentary for us and the buffet spread did not disappoint. Our favourite was the smoked salmon and with some creativity, we made our own smoke salmon bagels! We’d highly recommend checking the restaurant out for breakfast if you are staying at the hotel.
The Westin Whistler successfully balances luxury with a laid-back mountain vibe, creating a welcoming atmosphere for couples seeking both adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a longer mountain retreat, we highly recommend considering the Westin Resort & Spa for your Whistler accommodations.
Our brief visit to Whistler and our stay at the Westin left us eager to return. We could easily envision spending a week here, taking advantage of all that Whistler has to offer – from hiking and mountain biking in the summer to world-class skiing in the winter. The Westin’s central location and comfortable amenities would make an excellent home base for a longer exploration of this beautiful mountain town.
As we reluctantly checked out and began our drive back to Vancouver, we were already planning our next visit. The Whistler Westin had provided us with the perfect blend of romance, adventure, and relaxation – everything we look for in a couple’s getaway. We can’t wait to return and create more memories in this mountain paradise.
